Mosaics are pieces of art that have been made using small sections of glass or ceramic tiles and grout for thousands of years. They can make up the ceiling in an elaborate building or the top of a coffee table; there are no limits to mosaics. With the right materials and a little practice, making your own mosaic will be easy enough and great fun.
Start by collecting all the materials you want to use. Depending on the look you want for the tiles, you can use broken pieces of tile or special mosaic tiles. There is also the possibility to use pieces of coloured glass, shells from the beach and other items.
Then you need to choose the foundation you will make the mosaic on, this can be a tabletop or a piece of wood, it depends on what you will use it for after it is made. Before sticking your tiles, think of a design you would like to do and draw it out on the base.
Mix the mortar per the instructions on the packet and apply it to the base. Make sure to stick the tile pieces while it is still wet, and then let it set for around 24 hours. Then prepare the grout mixture and ensure the colour matches with the mosaic design. Fill in all the gaps between the tiles with the grout and let it dry. Then clean the top with a wet cloth and you are done.
